Colombo & the West Coast
Capital city energy, temples, markets and the beaches closest to the airport.
Most trips start and end here. Bandaranaike International Airport sits just north of Negombo, so the west coast is where you recover from a long flight or spend a last night before flying home. Colombo itself rewards a day or two: colonial streets in Fort, the chaos of Pettah market, Buddhist and Hindu temples, a sea-front promenade at Galle Face Green and the best restaurant scene in the country. South of the city, Mount Lavinia and Kalutara are easy beach escapes without a long drive.
Highlights
- Pettah market and the Red Mosque
- Sunset at Galle Face Green
- Gangaramaya Temple
- Negombo fish market and lagoon
