Little Adam's Peak is Ella's easiest and most rewarding hike. In under an hour you walk from the edge of town through tea bushes and up a ridge with sweeping views of Ella Gap, Ella Rock and, on clear mornings, all the way to the southern plains. Its name comes from its resemblance to the much bigger Adam's Peak.
The route
- The trail starts from the Passara Road, about 1.5 km east of Ella town (follow the signs for the 98 Acres Resort).
- A wide path leads through tea plantations to a set of steps that climb to the first summit, marked by a small Buddha statue.
- From here a narrower path continues along the ridge to further viewpoints — quieter and well worth it.
- Time: about 45 minutes up at an easy pace; 1.5–2 hours return including time at the top.
- Difficulty: easy to moderate. The steps are steady; the ridge path beyond the first summit is uneven.
Sunrise or sunset?
Sunrise gives the best light, cool air and fewer people. Start walking about an hour before dawn with a headlamp. Late afternoon is pleasant too, but clouds often build up after midday in the hill country.
What to bring
Water, a light jacket for the early morning, shoes with grip and a little cash for king coconuts sold near the trailhead.
Combine it with
Walk down and continue to Nine Arches Bridge, about 30 minutes away on foot via the tea paths, then head back to Ella town for breakfast. The Flying Ravana zipline is near the trailhead if you want an adrenaline hit.
